A simple thought for success

Success is a complicated idea. In some cases, it is defined by society, in others, it is defined by an individual. Many people often use measurable achievements to determine success while others use impact or significance.

Success is fleeting, and as one business leader describes it, “Success is not owned; it’s rented, and the rent is due every day.”

Many people believe success is happen chance – of being in the right place at the right time – or is a product of heritage and environment, something utterly elusive to the masses. It can be so complicated and overwhelming at times that people often give up on the idea that they will ever be successful, but I think it is much simpler than that.

Here is a simple thought that will lead you to success regardless of your chosen field:

If you help enough people get what they want, you will eventually get what you want.

This thought requires three commitments on our part, the first being to see ourself not as someone to be blessed, but as someone who blesses others. When we seek to bless others first, we will be blessed as a result. When we seek first to be blessed by others, neither we nor the people around us will be blessed.

The second commitment is similar, and that is to genuinely care about others. It’s not enough to merely give lip service to this idea, because when push comes to shove, if we don’t genuinely care about others, we will take care of ourself first. Helping others get what they want means that sometimes we will lose in the short term in order to gain in the long term.

The last one is simple, but quite difficult for most people: remember that there is a long term and don’t give up. Success often comes to those who persevere, because the harvest comes long after the seed goes into the ground. Too many people quit before the harvest and then wonder why they weren’t successful.

So try this today. Seek to bless others by helping them get what they want, and in time, you will get what you want. It’s as simple as that.
